Goldman sacks ‘out of control’ banker
A TOP City banker at Goldman Sachs has been sacked after allegedly threatening his pregnant boss during a row over his performance.
The vice president – who is in his mid-30s and worked on Goldman’s operations team – is said to have been ‘out of control’ during a meeting with her and another woman, according to a leaked letter from the bank. The pair found the ‘aggressive and intimidating’ encounter traumatic, the letter said.
It is claimed that straight after the meeting, he made a threatening gesture at the pregnant woman outside the bank’s City headquarters in Fleet Street. It left her ‘greatly distressed’ and ‘ frightened’, Goldman claimed in the letter obtained by Financial News. This bustup is claimed to have been part of a pattern of confrontational behaviour by the banker which made it impossible to keep him on.
The staff member reportedly denied the allegations and claimed he was a victim of bullying by senior managers. In the letter to the banker, Goldman said: ‘Such conduct falls substantially below expected standards of conduct at the firm.’
Goldman Sachs declined to comment last night.
