Fonda failed me

-

YESTERDAY, the Mail il asked the question n ‘Are celebrity fitness s DVDs a big fat lie’ — to o which, of course, the e answer is a big fat yes. s.

And the culprits s aren’t just today’s s reality TV stars, keen n to make a quick buck k before their fame fades. s.

I remember buying g video Jane Fonda’s back workout in the ute Eighties, confident t that a few minutes a day in leg warmers in front of the TV would transform me into Sheena Easton.

Of course it didn’t. As anyone who has ever lost a significant amount of weight will testify, the reality is not nearly as exciting as the hype.

In fact, were I to make my own weightloss DVD ( having recently shed a load) load), it would mostly consist of me staring wistfully at the children’s fish fingers, gazing sorrowfully at the crisps aisle of Sainsbury’s and sipping tap water while everyone else knocks back rosé.

The truth? Losing weight is boring. Keeping it off is more boring still.
