Masazo Nonaka, pictured, received the award from Guinness World Records at his home in Ashoro, on the Japanese island of Hokkaido, and celebrated with a big cake. Mr Nonaka, who was aged 112 years and 259 days yesterday, replaced Francisco Olivera, from Spain, who died in January aged 113 years and 47 days. The world’s oldest woman is believed to be Nabi Tajima, 117, who is also from Japan.
