Safe to walk the streets
HOW sad to see the wave of stabbings and shootings in North london.
I was born in Tottenham in 1930 and at school there was no bullying or fighting. I enjoyed Saturday night church socials and had no worries about walking home alone at 10pm.
When I started work at 16 at a surveyors and estate agents, I would take a bag of rent money to the bank. It would be obvious what I was carrying along Tottenham High road, but I felt completely safe.
Going home late at night after a trip to the cinema, I would pass the occasional policeman walking the streets. I treasure my memories of North london and hope that one day it will return to peace. MARGARET MORLEY,
