MOTTY, 72, TO BOW OUT WITH A BAFTA

-

VETERAN BBC commentator John Motson, 72, will be given a special award at next month’s BAFTAs as he nears the end of his 50-year sports broadcasting career. Last month’s Arsenal v Watford game was Motson’s final commentary for Radio 5 Live but he will continue with Match of the Day until the end of the season in May. Motson (above) has covered 2,000 matches for television and radio, including 10 World Cups and 29 FA Cup finals. He said: ‘It is an honour. I look forward to celebrating with colleagues, friends and family.’ RYAN MASON is back at Tottenham working on his coaching badges. The former Hull midfielder, 26, retired in January on medical grounds after fracturing his skull 11 months earlier.

Spurs have welcomed Mason back to his boyhood club as he enters the next stage of his career. ‘It’s just the next step,’ he said. ‘I’m keen to make the most of the next 10 years.’

THE FA are listing certain coaches involved with their England teams as ‘BAME’ (black, Asian and minority ethnic) in official correspondence. A letter sent to parents with children selected for an Under 15 training camp was tweeted earlier this week, sparking surprise that Warren Hackett, 46, a former St Lucia international who also works at West Ham, was listed as BAME when two other black coaches — Kevin Betsy and Justin Cochrane — are on staff.
