England joy soured by red card for diving

- OLIVER TODD

ENGLAND moved top of their World Cup qualifying group — but not without the scare of a red card for diving in Bosnia. Phil Neville’s team shrugged off Alex Greenwood’s sending-off to prevail in Zenica with Toni Duggan’s 20th international goal and a late Jodie Taylor penalty. ‘We talked about parking the bus — this was parking three or four buses,’ said Neville. ‘It was football like I had never seen before. It was a patient performance. We had to wait. The first goal was always going to be key. ‘Toni Duggan scored a brilliant goal — she was fantastic today.’ England had struggled against the defensive-minded hosts in the first half. They only broke through after Greenwood’s red card — the Liverpool left back was booked for dissent before half-time and then, two minutes after the break, for diving. England took the lead when Duggan poked in Melissa Lawley’s cross in the 56th minute, then Bosnia captain Amira Spahic was also sent off for a second booking. Substitute Taylor made sure of victory, tucking away her late spot-kick after Lidija Kulis fouled Beth Mead.
