Street to keep its ‘rude’ name

-

RESIDENTS living on a road called Bell End have fought off a campaign to rename it after almost 5,000 people signed a petition to keep it.

Some embarrassed locals in Rowley Regis, West Midlands, claimed the name led to lower house prices and to children living in the street being bullied. But while a petition calling for change attracted only 207 signatures since being set up three months ago, a rival group wishing to keep the status quo was backed by 4,800.

Yesterday Sandwell Council confirmed that no changes will be made to the name of the street, which leads into Mincing Lane. Linda George, who set up the online petition called Leave the Historic Name of Bell End Alone, said: ‘There are many places in the UK with far worse names.’
