Fury to return in summer as he plots path to Joshua

- By JEFF POWELL

TYSON FURY will return to the ring this summer with his eye on a huge heavyweight world-title challenge to Anthony Joshua within 12 months. The controversial Fury is expected to announce his comeback in London today. The 29-year-old has been out of the ring for more than two and a half years following the alleged failure of a drugs test — for which he accepted a retrospective suspension — prior to his conquest of Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. Fury has resumed training and lost several stone of the surplus weight he put on while out of action. He has supplied the British Boxing Board of Control with the results of his physical and psychological examinations. That has enabled the board to confirm the lifting of their ban on him following his admission of cocaine abuse. Promoter Frank Warren has advised Fury he needs two or three fights before a world-title clash with Joshua next year. His first is set to be a loosener against a modest opponent in early June. Then Fury is likely to face American veteran Shannon Briggs in the autumn.
