It’ll be the worst night of your life – rapist’s chilling threat to victim

- By Richard Marsden r.marsden@dailymail.co.uk

A COLLEGE student trapped his victim in his house and told her: ‘This is going to be the worst night of your life,’ before raping her repeatedly.

Thomas Patton, 21, lured the woman by threatening to hurt her family and damage their property if she did not agree to meet him, a court has heard.

She went to his house but, once she was inside, Patton locked the door and snapped her mobile phone in half.

He then told her: ‘ nah, you’re not going anywhere. This is going to be the worst night of your life. i’m just gonna beat you and rape you.’

Leeds crown court was told the defendant kept her prisoner for two days.

Stephen Wood, prosecuting, said: ‘He was violent towards her and he raped her on multiple occasions. Why? Because he could. This was all about power.’

He said that Patton was ‘obsessed’ with his victim and threatened to smash her mother’s windows and hurt her family unless she agreed to meet him after a food and drink festival in Huddersfield.

While locked inside the house, Patton’s victim started banging on the windows and screaming for help.

Mr Wood said: ‘The defendant ran over to her, put his hand over her mouth and threw her on to the sofa.

‘He told her that if she did not “shut the f*** up” he would “f***ing hurt her”.’

The court heard Patton, of Deighton, Huddersfield, had previously referred to his victim as ‘nothing but a dog’.

He slapped her repeatedly and brandished a knife, telling her he was ‘ going to use her as a sex slave’.

Patton then raped her repeatedly until the morning of the second day she was held captive – when he answered the door to find that the woman’s father was standing outside, and the victim fled, the jury heard.

after she ran from the house, her father bundled her into his car and drove her to safety. Patton, who was studying sociology, psychology and history at Kirklees college in West yorkshire, was found guilty of five counts of rape, false imprisonment and assault during a

seven-day trial. He was cleared of two rapes alleged to have taken place months before the woman was taken prisoner.

He also admitted criminal damage to her mobile phone.

in his defence, Patton had claimed that the woman ‘enjoys rough sex’ and what had happened was consensual.

Several witnesses gave evidence claiming the woman had told them she was lying about the allegations.

But the victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, denied the claim while under cross-examination.

During more than three hours of questioning during the trial, the woman said: ‘i seriously just want him to get help.

‘i think he has anger issues and problems with his mental health.’

Patton was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on May 9.
