… as Helen says site hits cinemas

-

DAME Helen Mirren has lamented the ‘devastating’ impact Netflix has had on filmmakers – including her American husband Taylor Hackford.

The actress, 72, pictured with Hackford, accused the streaming site of ruining the ‘communal cinema’ experience, especially for directors who create films with an audience in mind.

Speaking to the i newspaper, Dame Helen said: ‘It’s devastating for people like my husband, film directors, because they want their movies to be watched in a cinema with a group of people. So it’s a communal thing.’

Hackford, 72, is best known for 1982’s An Officer And A Gentleman and met Dame Helen on the set of 1985 film White Nights. The couple, who each have an Oscar, have been married for 29 years.
