Pensioners running low on medication
A GROUP of elderly British passengers told how they were running out of essential medicine as they faced a further week stuck on the island.
The eight pensioners claimed they were given a ‘take it or leave it’ offer for a return flight.
Sue Collingwood, 67, said: ‘It was pandemonium and tempers flared so much the police were called.’
She said there appeared to be no easyJet rep to help and they were told at the airport information desk they would need to take the following Monday’s flight back or pay for an earlier flight themselves.
She said: ‘They were basically saying take it or leave it. Easyjet have not contacted us at all since.’
With ages ranging from 67 to 81, several rely on prescription medicine. Mrs Collingwood said: ‘There is one chap here who has run out of medication for his Parkinson’s and diabetes.
‘Others are running low on theirs. I have had to cut mine in half to help my friend Brenda.’
An EasyJet spokesman said: ‘We did everything possible to minimise disruption, providing rooms and meals for passengers and the option of refunds or transferring flights free of charge including with other airlines if an easyJet flight cannot be found within 48 hours.’
