Guardiola lands title for City and Kompany starts party
MANCHESTER CITY’S title party started with pints and jagerbombs last night as their Premier League triumph was finally confirmed.
Manchester United’s shock 1-0 home defeat by bottom of the table West Bromwich Albion yesterday left City uncatchable at the top with a 16-point lead.
Captain Vincent Kompany led the celebrations, taking his teammates to the Railway pub in Hale where they drank beers and jagerbombs, bought drinks for fans, sang City chants and Pulp’s Common People and posed for selfies. Standing on a chair, Kompany told a cheering crowd: ‘It’s been a long journey – we’re going to celebrate together!’
City boss Pep Guardiola is already targeting increased dominance next year.
‘That is the target,’ Guardiola said. ‘It will be more complicated but we believe we are good.’
United manager Jose Mourinho was furious with the way his side presented City with the title.
‘We deserved to be punished,’ the Portuguese said.
