WIN IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR, KOMPANY ROARS

- BY CHRIS WHEELER

VINCENT KOMPANY led Manchester City’s celebrations at a Cheshire pub after urging team-mates to create ‘a dynasty’. After winning his third Premier League crown, City’s skipper says the challenge for Pep Guardiola’s side is to win back-toback titles for the first time. ‘The first time you win it, you think you’ll win all of them,’ said Kompany. ‘Then the first time you lose one, you think you’re never going to win another ever again. ‘You can’t take it for granted. I’ve never been able to retain a title and I want to see if this team has it to be even more successful. ‘I’ve been lucky to win three but so many I have missed as well. I suppose my teammates will perhaps roll their eyes a little bit, but I want to see how we react next season. One thing Pep has been able to transfer to the team is that hunger and desire to never be satisfied. ‘This is not a dynasty. It is one title. We are all delighted, but there is a lot more to do to unlock our full potential.’ On West Brom’s shock win at Old Trafford, Kompany added: ‘I had that feeling when I woke up this morning. It was a wonderful goal from Jay Rodriguez. Thank you!’ Earlier, speaking to Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne on FaceTime from his in-laws’ home, Kompany planned a team celebration. Most of the City players congregated at The Railway pub in Hale last night where they toasted success and had a singalong. Guardiola had given them three days off after Saturday’s win over Tottenham, and keeper Ederson was thought to be in Portugal and Leroy Sane in Germany. Guardiola, meanwhile, avoided United’s game by playing golf at Sandiway Golf Club with Tommy Fleetwood, a member of the European Tour. The City boss said: ‘We have to try to be even better next season. You cannot deny we were good this season, but we have to improve.’ David Silva, who has missed games and struggled to train properly while being at the bedside of his baby son Mateo, who was born prematurely, tweeted: ‘My 3rd league but this one is the most special. Thanks to everyone for supporting me in this tough year.’ Raheem Sterling added: ‘I came here to try to win the Premier League every year. Now we’re getting to a level where we’re playing some great football and hopefully we can build on this.’
