IT’S SUCH A TWEET SUCCESS FOR CITY

- OLIVER TODD monitors the reaction on social media

MANCHESTER CITY had weeks to prepare for their big Premier League title moment — and United’s shock defeat allowed them to roll it all out last night. With events at Old Trafford ticking into second-half added time, City’s Twitter account posted: ‘We interrupt your Sunday evening to bring you....’ to accompany a live stream of captain Vincent Kompany watching the closing moments and then celebrating. From there, his team-mates could embrace their big moment, posting cartoon-like ‘Premier League champions’ images that had been put together by City’s media team. Kyle Walker mocked United with a ‘Manchester is Blue’ message and Benjamin Mendy, the left back who has become this team’s most-vocal supporter during his long injury absence, was posting: ‘We are the f****** champions’ in a string of celebratory tweets. Later, Walker would send a message to his fans with a live feed of his own from the Railway pub in Hale. ‘This has been one of the best Sundays of my life,’ he said. Videos later emerged of City players celebrating in the pub with Kompany standing on a chair to deliver a speech. But perhaps the best reaction to the title triumph fell to the team who actually provided it. Posting from their official @WBA feed, staff from West Bromwich Albion wrote: ‘You’re welcome, @ManCity.’ Manchester United, meanwhile, also took to Twitter to post about City being crowned champions because of their surprising loss to West Brom. ‘Congratulations to Manchester City on their Premier League title win,’ they wrote. The top reply to this came from a fan who responded: ‘Delete this.’
