Monumental mistake

HISTORIC England was given £86million last year to protect our national monuments. So why on earth is it promoting a debate on whether ‘controversial’ memorials such as Nelson’s Column should be removed – featuring a panellist who believes the hero of Trafalgar was merely a ‘white supremacist’?

To whom is Nelson’s Column controversial? For the vast majority of Britons it is a source of pride and a potent symbol of our maritime history. This quango needs reminding that it’s there to preserve our national heritage – not conspire with those who wish to destroy it.
