Briton, 51, ‘ kicks Thai bride, 29, to death for refusing sex’

A BriTisH man has been arrested in Thailand after allegedly kicking his wife to death when she refused to have sex with him.

Kevin smitham, 51, was held after the naked body of his wife Kanda, 29, was found under a blanket.

The couple, who have been married for several years and have three children, were visiting her parents for songkran, the Thai new year.

Police said they had been drinking when smitham flew into a jealous rage – accusing his wife of cheating on him when she refused to have sex on sunday evening.

‘He said he did not mean to kill her’

next morning and called police. officers said they found smitham, who is from nottingham, standing by the side of the building. He allegedly confessed to killing his wife, but said it was an accident.

inspector General Watcharapo­l Pimwong said smitham was in custody in ubon ratchathan­i, a city in the north east of the country. He added: ‘i arrived and found a woman lying naked in front of the house. The woman was Kanda smitham, age 29.

‘The victim had a blanket covering her. There were many bruises on the face and body. she had been dead for several hours.’

Mr Pimwong said: ‘The victim’s husband confessed to killing his wife.

‘He said he did not mean to kill her. Last night he and his wife had beer until late at night. During the drinking and eating, suddenly they started arguing because he wanted to have sex.

‘His wife refused and this caused jealousy. He thought that the wife had been courting other men.

‘He said he attacked her with his foot and kicked her in the face and body several times. The wife ran away from home and fell in front of the house. He left his wife like that by covering her with a blanket. Then he went to bed.’

smitham has been married three times and has a 30-year-old son who lives in Derbyshire. He is a mechanical engineer who worked for German textiles company Bruckner. The company has an office in rayong – 37 miles from the smithams’ home in Pattaya – but it is not known if he still works for the firm.
