Today’s poem
GRANDFATHER’S WEEK
Monday: Grandmother heard from her daughter called Kay, Grandfather poured some wine. ‘She’d like me to care for the twins right away. Grandfather said: ‘I’ll be fine.’ Tuesday: Grandmother went to look after the twins. Grandfather rested in bed. Grandmother cooked and she put out the bins. Grandfather tidied his shed. Wednesday: Grandmother dusted and kept Kay’s house clean. Grandfather went to play bridge. Grandmother emptied the washing machine. Grandfather emptied the fridge. Thursday: Grandmother took the boys out to the park. Grandfather lunched at The Bell. Grandmother didn’t sit down until dark. Grandfather phoned: ‘I’m quite well.’ Friday: Grandmother left the dear twins and came back. Grandfather sat down to rest. ‘Hotels are OK, but they haven’t your knack. Home cooking is always the best.’ Jill Rundle, Oundle, Northants.
