BBC to retell Maggie story
THE BBC has promised to ‘reignite the debate’ over Margaret Thatcher’s 12-year premiership with a major documentary.
The five-part series, given the working title Thatcher, is billed as ‘the defining story of Margaret Thatcher and of the era when she dominated the political and social landscape’. But those who had been close to Baroness Thatcher voiced fears last night that the series could be infected by Left-wing bias. Tory MP Conor Burns, a confidant of the former PM, said: ‘I would hope they approach it with a degree of objectivity which hasn’t always been present in [BBC] coverage of her.’
BBC2 controller Patrick Holland said the series would ‘be an exploration of the age that produced so much of the world we live in today’. No release date has been given for the documentary.
