At last! Cost of car cover has actually gone DOWN
CAR insurance premiums have fallen by more than £13 in just three months after the Government pledged to tackle bogus whiplash claims and large compensation payouts.
After hitting a record high last year, the cost of the average policy has fallen for three consecutive quarters, the AA said.
The average premium quoted for a driver buying a comprehensive policy was £660.64 in the first three months of the year. That is £13.42p less than in the final quarter of last year.
For third party, fire and theft, the average quote was £1,017.86 – down £48.05. The AA called it a ‘glimmer of good news for drivers’ who face rising fuel prices and vehicle excise duty rates on new cars.
Insurance companies have cut their premiums after the Government announced plans to crack down on bogus whiplash claims and reform the way compensation for serious personal injuries are calculated.
