THE STORY BEHIND HEMBURY CHAIR

- JC

HAVE I SEEN THAT BEFORE? No. Well, not quite. The shape is inspired by the famous Eames plastic side chair. Only this chair is made from wool.

WOOL? Yes. British Herdwick wool. Justin and Hannah Floyd created a new material — Solidwool — which when combined with bioresins behaves like fibreglass.

RESOURCEFUL? Very. They are based in Buckfastleigh, South Devon, which was once a thriving centre for the wool industry. The duo wanted to find a new use for the now almost worthless wool from hill-farmed upland sheep.

WHAT ELSE DO THEY MAKE? A matching side table, plus placemats and coasters.

DOES THE CHAIR COME IN OTHER COLOURS? Yes. Teal blue, orange and green. For these they’ve used white wool from Scottish Blackface sheep and coloured bio-resins.

HOW MUCH IS IT? £395, solidwool.com.
