Jones: Mo tainted by Salazar connection
BRITISH marathon record holder Steve Jones fears Sir Mo Farah will always be tainted by his association with coach Alberto Salazar.
Last year Farah, 35, split from Salazar — who is under investigation by anti- doping authorities — after six years.
Jones said: ‘I remember racing against Salazar in the Eighties. In marathon, we are all nuts and raisins. It is what level you are. Alberto always takes things to the “nth” degree. That is what he has done with his coaching and his training.’
Jones (right) was quick to make clear that he was not suggesting Farah had done anything wrong, adding: ‘I’m not trying to say this is the avenue Mo is taking, or anything, but there is a little taint there. It is guilt by association, I suppose, which is unfair.’ And Jones believes Farah will break his 1985 time of 2hr 7min 13sec — set at the Chicago race — in Sunday’s London Marathon. ‘I never thought the record would last so long,’ he said. ‘I should just wave the white flag and hand it over.’
