Simon says . . . but will he do?

-

RADIO 2 DJ Simon Mayo says that when he copresents his show with Jo Whiley, he’s ‘sure’ they’ll be on the same salary.

Actually, he’s currently on more than £350,000 and she’s on around £150,000.

Why doesn’t Mayo take a leaf out of Radio 4 grandee John Humphry’s book and take a cut — the Today presenter voluntarily reduced his salary twice, taking it down from around £400,000 to £290,000.

If the BBC’s finest political heavyweight presenter can do it, surely a two-bit music DJ can.
