Downton’s Lady Edith moves in with her footman!

-

LADY Edith had to endure six series of anguish in Downton Abbey before she finally won her happy ending.

In real life, 31-year-old actress Laura Carmichael, who played the unlucky-in-love character, seems to have found lasting romance — with one of Downton’s servants.

Michael Fox, 29, who played the illiterate footman Andrew Parker, discloses that he has moved in with Laura.

And friends tell me they expect wedding bells to be ringing soon.

‘ We do live together now,’ Fox confirms at a party at the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel in North London.

In a further sign of their commitment, the couple, right, plan to become joint owners of a pet. ‘We are thinking about getting a dog — a Border terrier. They’re really cool. We want a rescue dog.’

Buckinghamshire grammar schoolboy Fox, who in real life enjoys country pursuits such as equestrian eventing, was charmed by Laura while they were filming the final series of Downton in 2015.

He did not, however, become romantically involved with Laura, a radiographer’s daughter from Southampton, until more recently after they kept in touch.

While Fox played a lowly servant and she was an earl’s daughter, their domestic dynamic is very different. ‘She actually brings me tea at home, more than the other way around,’ he says.

The couple are hoping to work together on a big-screen version of the drama.

‘ Hopefully, the Downton film will come through. There are so many people to get together, though.

‘It will be funny, because it will be the first time we’re working together while also being together.

‘It would be quite convenient because we could just get in the car together in the morning — it would be fun.’

He adds: ‘I guess I would be just serving her drinks.’
