Meet the twins born five years apart!
ASIDE from the obvious age difference, it’s not hard to see that these two gorgeous children are siblings.
Few, however, would guess that Jake and Esme Seddon are in fact twins – born five years apart. They were conceived at the same time during IVF, but Jake was born in April 2012 while his sister remained in the freezer for five years.
Their mother Claire, 36, said: ‘They are theoretically twins because they were conceived at the same time. When Esme arrived, Jake was so thrilled. He had waited such a long time to meet her.’
Mrs Seddon and her husband Ben, 40, a personnel manager at Tesco, already had one daughter – Emily, now ten.
When she was two, they decided to try for a brother or sister for her but had no success in two years. Tests showed Mrs Seddon had developed cysts on her ovaries and doctors said their only chance of having another baby was with fertility treatment. In 2011 the couple, from Bolton, went to CARE fertility clinic in Manchester for a round of IVF. Eight embryos were produced from that treatment cycle. One was put back into Mrs Seddon’s womb and the remaining seven were put into the freezer. The treatment was a success and Jake was born weighing 11lb.
However, the Seddons decided to wait several years before trying for another child. Mrs Seddon said: ‘Life just got in the way – we wanted to enjoy having Jake and see him growing up, and before we knew it, it had been nearly five years. The clinic had contacted us to ask us what we wanted to do with our remaining frozen embryos, so we decided we would have another try.’
Again it was a success and Esme was born in February last year, weighing 10lb. Mrs Seddon said: ‘Jake loves having a little sister. He’s so good with her – they have waited long enough to meet each other.’
