Dads to be! Daley and husband’s baby shower

- Daily Mail Reporter

THESE days, baby showers are a key date on the calendar for any mother expecting a child.

And it seems that as far as Tom Daley and his film-maker husband are concerned, it’s no different for a pair of fathers to be.

The couple, who are expecting a son through a surrogate, were thrown a surprise party by friends at their London flat at the weekend.

Olympic diver Daley, 23, and Dustin Lance Black, 43, wore matching ‘Oh Baby’ novelty paper glasses, as well as sashes emblazoned with ‘Daddy to Be’.

Guests, including Daley’s mother and brother, Sam, were treated to drinks out of coloured baby bottles with straws and an array of finger sandwiches and cupcakes – though it is not known whether the surrogate mother attended.

The couple, who married last year, posted pictures of the party on social media on Saturday. Daley shared a picture of him and Black to his 2million followers with the caption: ‘Surprise baby shower.’

The double Olympic bronze medallist, from Plymouth, wore a leg brace after injury forced him to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games earlier this month.

Yesterday he told the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show the brace was for ‘stress responses in the shin’. The couple had revealed they were expecting a child on Valentine’s Day by sharing a picture with an ultrasound scan.

Daley told the BBC: ‘It’s a little boy and we’re so, so excited, we’ve been working on the nursery, we’ve been reading all the books. I think I’ve been watching too much One Born Every Minute so I’m a little bit nervous about what’s going to happen.

‘But my husband and I are so excited, my mum’s excited, my grandparents are excited. There’s something about having a baby brought into a family that really brings everyone together.’

Daley, who pointed out during the games that homosexuality was illegal in 37 of 53 Commonwealth nations, also spoke about tackling homophobia.

He said: ‘I think the one thing that is the most powerful thing to do is go and compete and do the best I can, and just be who I am and compete at the highest level that I can. Speaking out can only do so much.’
