CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEKEND

- By ADAM SHERGOLD

PERFECT 10 FOR WILSON

A CHAOTIC afternoon in the Ashton Gate sunshine as Bristol City and Hull City shared 10 goals, a result that deals a blow to the Robins’ play- off hopes. Hull had trailed 3-1 and 4-2 yet turned it around to lead 5-4 before Joe Bryan equalised for City in stoppage time. Key to Hull’s dogged display was the talented Harry Wilson, on loan from Liverpool, who has been directly involved in 10 goals in 11 Championship appearances (seven goals, three assists).

MONK CHANGES HABIT

GARRY MONK has worked wonders with 13 points from nine matches to lift Birmingham City out of the relegation zone. One problem area he identified was one-on-one situations, with too many opportunities going begging. So when Che Adams set Jacques Maghoma through with the scores level at 1-1 against Sheffield United, St Andrew’s held its breath. But Maghoma made no mistake to earn a crucial win.

NUNO DEMANDS CENTURY

THEY have been the most stylish side in the division all season and few will argue that Wolves don’t deserve to be crowned champions. More than 4,800 fans created a sea of gold at Bolton’s Macron Stadium and the champagne could finally flow after a 4-0 win. But manager Nuno espirito Santo is refusing to let his players rest on their laurels as they chase 100 points. ‘Now I want to achieve more, I want more points,’ he said. But they won’t reach the divisional record of 106 set by Reading in 2005-06.

IPSWICH OFF-KEY FOR ED

ED SHEERAN and his fiancee Cherry Seaborn were at Portman Road to watch their beloved Ipswich take on promotion-chasers Aston Villa. Unfortunately they didn’t have much to cheer as Villa won 4-0, keeping alive their outside chance of going up automatically. ‘We want to make our rivals win promotion and not let them fall over the line,’ said Villa assistant Colin Calderwood.

FLAMING HECK!

Paul Heckingbottom’s start to life as leeds united manager has been far from easy. but he came back to haunt the barnsley fans who branded him a traitor when he crossed the Yorkshire divide by sending the tykes closer to the drop. tom Pearce and ezgjan alioski earned leeds a 2-1 win. Heckingbottom (right) swerved the press conference and assistant Jamie clapham said: ‘Paul expected the reaction he got from the barnsley fans, so there are no complaints.’
