Winkleman: Phones are the ‘enemy’

-

MOBILE phones are the ‘enemy’ of family mealtimes, presenter Claudia Winkleman has said. The 46-year-old made the comments in a joint interview with former Great British Bake Off judge Mary Berry.

Miss Berry, 83, said mealtimes were important for bonding. ‘Children tell you all sorts of things when they’re happy and full,’ she said.

But mother-of-three Miss Winkleman added: ‘I think the enemy of family cooking is probably taking phones to the table.’ Despite believing in the importance of mealtimes, she confessed making food was not her forte and, when asked to name her favourite recipe, she told Radio Times: ‘Marmite on toast, obviously.’

Miss Winkleman will host new culinary competition Britain’s Best Home Cook. The BBC One series, which starts on May 3, will be judged by Miss Berry alongside presenter Chris Bavin and chef Dan Doherty.
