At last! It’s a home win for Derbyshire

DeRBYsHiRe ended a 23-match winless run at home with a 101-run victory over Middlesex in Division two of the specsavers County Championsh­ip at Derby.

A streak stretching back 1,306 days to september 2014 finally came to an end when Duanne olivier (below) bowled tim Murtagh to end spirited resistance by the Middlesex tail. James Harris, unbeaten on 64, and tom Helm produced a ninth-wicket stand of 106 before the visitors were bowled out for 340 chasing 442.

in Division one, surrey’s 19-year- old spinner Amar Virdi finished with secondinni­ngs four wickets to help seal a 139-run victory over Hampshire at the oval.

Yorkshire needed just one hour to wrap up a 164-run win over nottingham­shire at Headingley. Ben Coad took six for 81 in the second innings to complete a 10-wicket match haul, with notts all out for 238 chasing 403 to win.

James Bracey’s unbeaten 120 was not enough to stop Gloucester­shire falling to a six-wicket defeat at home to Glamorgan in Division two, while Luke Wells hit an unbeaten 102 as sussex drew with Leicesters­hire at Grace Road.
