KLOPP WARNING He tells fans: Show Italians some respect

- By DOMINIC KING

jurgen KLOPP has urged Liverpool fans to show roma respect and demanded there be no repeat of the violent scenes outside Anfield that marred the quarter-final first leg against Manchester City.

Liverpool’s manager is relishing the club’s first Champions League semi-final since 2008 and expects his team to be inspired by the opportunity that awaits them tonight.

He hopes Anfield will be even noisier than it was for the match against the Premier League champions, but he does not want supporters to overstep the mark, as was the case when City’s bus was pelted with bottles.

‘In the stadium, do it again — and better,’ said Klopp. ‘Out of the stadium, please show the respect we have to show. This is such a fantastic football club, outstanding football family, known for fantastic atmospheres all over the world, so we don’t need to throw

whatever at the bus. Please show the respect they deserve. ‘We are opponents on the pitch but I really think we can show how wonderful Liverpool people are and the city and the spirit of the club. We can show it 20 minutes before the game and then the whole world knows it. All the people here deserve that we show this.’ Klopp believes Liverpool are back at Europe’s top table for good. Few expected them to make the last four and there is a feeling they must grasp this golden chance against Roma. But Klopp begs to differ. ‘This is big — but it’s not a once-in-a-lifetime chance,’ said Klopp, who took Borussia Dortmund to the 2013 final at Wembley. ‘I am already in the semi-finals for the second time. If I get there, it will be my second time in the final. That’s pretty rare. I would say (seize the moment) if I was in doubt about the attitude of the boys, but I am not. We all feel the same excitement. ‘We realise this is only a step and we deserve it. That’s cool — now let’s use a fantastic situation. Let’s play our best football and see what happens.’ Mohamed Salah returned to Merseyside yesterday after being crowned PFA Player of the Year in London. Liverpool signed the Egyptian from Roma but Klopp is not worried about sentiment affecting him. ‘Italian defenders are famous for not having friendly games,’ said Klopp. ‘So I think Mo will feel early in the game they are not his team-mates any more and he can strike back.’
