PLAYER RATINGS

- By JOE BERNSTEIN AT ANFIELD SUBSTITUTES Wijnaldum 7 (for OxladeChamberlain, 18min), Ings 5.5 (Salah, 75), Klavan (Firmino, 90). Not used: Mignolet, Clyne, Moreno, Solanke. SUBSTITUTES Schick 6 (Under, 46), Gonalons 6 (De Rossi, 67), Perotti 6 (Jesus, 67).

LORIS KARIUS 6

GOOD saves from Schick and Strootman but lucky to escape when Kolarov’s shot hit the crossbar.

T ALEXANDER-ARNOLD 6.5

WHAT a season this teenager is having. Booked early on but grew into the contest.

DEJAN LOVREN 7

LOOKS a different player with Van Dijk. Unlucky not to score but late error let Roma back into tie.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK 7

COMMANDING. Put in an early tackle that sounded a warning. Liverpool’s own Vincent Kompany.

ANDREW ROBERTSON 7

DESERVES to be first Scot since Paul Lambert to play in a Champions League final. Energetic.

A OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN 6

EVENING was cut short when he slid into challenge with Kolarov and came off worse.

JORDAN HENDERSON 6.5

DISCIPLINED performance from the captain. Nothing flashy but kept a watchful eye on attacking threats.

JAMES MILNER 7.5

GETTING better with age. Big-game player and his harrying set tone. Only blemish was late penalty.

MOHAMED SALAH 9

DESTROYED former club. Scored two genius goals and set up two for his fellow musketeers.

ROBERTO FIRMINO 8.5

SEEMED to get as much joy setting up Salah’s two goals as scoring himself. Selfless and full of quality.

SADIO MANE 7

SKIED two great chances but was in the right place to convert Salah’s cutback. Full of industry.

JURGEN KLOPP 8

HIS energy and intensity rubbed off. Six starters, plus Wijnaldum, were signed by him. It’s a side in his image, but may wish he’d kept Salah on longer.

ALISSON BECKER 6

BRAZIL’S No 1 looked solid until Salah beat him from range. Must have felt like a coconut shy after that.

FEDERICO FAZIO 4.5

LOOKED more like player who flopped at Spurs. Struggled against the pace of Mane.

KOSTAS MANOLAS 6

OLD-FASHIONED defender, got his body in the way, but movement of front three was just too much.

JUAN JESUS 5

HAD unenviable task of keeping Salah quiet. Safe to say he didn’t manage it. Booked and subbed.

ALESSANDRO FLORENZI 6

MEANT to be an outlet on the right but did not get any attacking service. Defended well enough.

DANIELE DE ROSSI 6

FADED against Liverpool’s high-octane midfield after impressing in the opening half-hour.

KEVIN STROOTMAN 4.5

AFTER a serious knee injury, he’s not the same player who Man United wanted in 2014. Sluggish.

ALEKSANDAR KOLAROV 5

HIT the crossbar but the defensive part of former Man City left back’s game was sorely lacking.

CENGIZ UNDER 4.5

SO anonymous, the only surprise when he was subbed was that he had been on the pitch at all.

RADJA NAINGGOLAN 5

BELGIAN failed to live up to big reputation. Looked a million miles away from Salah and pals.

EDIN DZEKO 6

HELD ball up well on rare occasions he got it and took his goal well. He’s the one to watch in Rome.

EUSEBIO DI FRANCESCO 6

MUST have been pleased with opening 30 but the game slipped away from him. Changes eventually made some impact, but struggled to stem tide.
