DO: choose lightweight fabrics
STARCHED, stiff ruffles are tricky to pull off.
I use the husband test: I ask myself: ‘If I go out wearing this, is he going to laugh at me?’ If the answer’s ‘yes’, then the outfit is probably a ‘no’.
Ruffles in sheer or very light fabrics that have a certain fluidity are much easier to wear and will be great for summer.
Look out for silk or a modern, high-tech, lightweight fabric — such as this luxurious, 100 per cent silk dress from John Lewis.
