DO: use subtle ruffles to enhance your figure

-

Many of us fear ruffles because they add bulk — but that’s not always a bad thing.

If you’re flat- chested, a ruffle around the decolletage or neckline can create curves and add interest to an area you would usually avoid drawing attention to.

This dusty pink dress (right) has a romantic frill that will emphasise a small bust, while gracefully hiding the upper arms.

Similarly, frills around the hemline of a skirt or dress can add femininity to a boyish frame. Just avoid anything too low- cut, such as Salma Hayek’s tight, white dress (left). While the actress can clearly pull off the frilly look (above right), here her outfit draws the eye to all the wrong areas and is far too revealing.

Use ruffles to softly skim and flatter your figure, rather than trying to ‘frame’ your assets. Frills add plenty of drama and interest to a look, so there’s no need to overdo it. Midi dress, £16, hiddenfashion.com
