Age no barrier to marathon man

-

Can you really run your first marathon at the age of 63 (Inspire)? I was 63 when my son, who lives in Texas, asked if I would like to run the Houston Marathon. I had left the army after 22 years and was looking for a challenge. I joined a running club and trained hard for six months. I won my age group in Texas with a time of three hours and 28 minutes. By 70, I’d finished five London Marathons and three Houston Marathons, mainly in times under four hours and finishing in the top three in my age group. I also ran many 5k races and half-marathons. now in my 90s, my running days may be over, but I still keep fit by swimming. R. HARRiSON, Frome, Somerset.
