Tom sings for his supper at Lady Annabel’s bash

For Lady Annabel Goldsmith, who is about to turn 84, her son Robin Birley managed to persuade superstar Sir Tom Jones to put on a surprise performance at his Mayfair private members’ club, 5 Hertford Street, on Wednesday.
Sir Tom, 77, performed with pianist Jools Holland and soul singer Ruby Turner at the dinner, where the widow of billionaire Sir James Goldsmith joined other guests to raise funds for Chain Of Hope and other charities.
‘The evening was just a totally joyful one-off,’ Birley tells me. ‘Tom and Jools are huge heroes of mine, and we all had a fantastic time chatting afterwards.’
