THE former head of BG Group and Norway’s Statoil has been named as the new chairman of oil titan BP.

Helge Lund, 55, will take over from CarlHenric Svanberg, 65, who has been chairman for almost nine years, in January.

It comes as oil firms adapt to a shift away from fossil fuels and BP restores its reputation after the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster that killed 11 men. Norwegian Lund is likely to have to oversee a successor to chief executive Bob Dudley, 62.
