Labourer who beat OAP to death is sent to Broadmoor
A LITHUANIAN labourer who killed a pensioner before cutting off her finger and setting her body alight was yesterday sent to Broadmoor psychiatric hospital indefinitely.
tautvydas Narbutas, 25, killed Albertina choules, 81, at her £2million home after climbing through an upstairs window.
he attacked her with weapons including a machete, knives and wooden stakes as she called 999. After she died, he put her naked body in a wheelbarrow and took it into her garden before setting it on fire.
At the high court yesterday, Mr Justice Stuart-Smith told Narbutas: ‘What you did was deeply shocking and utterly revolting to anyone in their right mind.’
Police arrived to find the body of Italianborn Mrs choules, who was a Buddhist widow, in her garden in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, at 7.15am on July 6, 2016.
Narbutas had pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not murder because he has a psychotic disorder.
Sentencing him to serve an indefinite hospital order starting at Broadmoor hospital, Mr Justice Stuart-Smith said: ‘You broke into her home by an upstairs window and then attacked her with sustained ferocity inflicting the most terrible injuries and humiliating degradation upon her.
‘When the police arrived, they saw you stoking the fire; you were then naked from the waist up.
‘the unlawful killing of Ms choules was a grave offence, you would pose a significant risk if released.’
the judge also commended the bravery of the officers who were first on the scene, saying that one Pc thought ‘he was going to die’ as he was attacked by Narbutas.
he added: ‘When reinforcements arrived you were seen completely naked and making aggressive gestures to the police and a helicopter. As they approached you had placed your hands firmly in the fire, but when challenged you again became violent.’
