BURSCOUGH, LANCASHIRE
ELAINE BEESLEY, 44, a web developer at Edge Hill Universiy (right), can’t wait to tackle plastic litter with her friends. ‘This is a farming area so there are dumped tyres and plastic from bales as well as fly-tipping.
‘It’s woven into the fabric of the soil, stopping the plants from growing,’ she says.
‘We’ve found once an area is cleaned, it often stays that way.’
