WHITE TRILLIUMS
Trillium grandiflorum or Wake-robin is a North American woodlander. Where I once lived, south of Lake Ontario, the spring woods were carpeted with the large, three-petalled flowers. They were pure white at first, turning pink. Wake-robin will grow in British gardens where soil is acidic to neutral, leafy, moistureretaining and gently shaded. A related Trillium flexipes has smaller flowers, but enjoys the neutral soil of my tiny wood garden. For a good choice, consult a specialist such as the Berwickshire based nursery Edrom, edrom-nurseries.co.uk.
