Young plants are growing fast, but could be vulnerable to slugs and snails.

You can protect container plants from them by installing ‘barriers’. If you stand pots on trays containing grit, the molluscs will not crawl over the sharp edges. Copper tape wrapped around pots can also deter them.

For open ground, nematode treatments are among the most eco-friendly controls.
