EMBARRASSING!

Pochettino slams FA for mocking England star Kane on Twitter

- by MATT BARLOW

Mauricio Pochettino has slammed the Fa for their attempts to ridicule Harry Kane on Twitter and warned that it could backfire at the World cup.

‘ it was embarrassing,’ said the Tottenham manager in reaction to a post on the official Fa cup Twitter account which poked fun at Kane’s subdued performance against Manchester united.

‘The Fa is English football and Harry Kane is a potential captain in the World cup. it was very difficult to understand. They have apologised but the situation disappointed me.’

The offending joke claimed Kane had spent the Fa cup semi-final in defender chris Smalling’s pocket as united won 2-1 at Wembley.

The Fa apologised but another joke was soon made at Kane’s expense, on Sunday, by PFa chairman Ben Purkiss, during his speech at the Player of the Year dinner.

Swindon defender Purkiss said the Spurs striker had become so prolific he was ‘able to score without touching the ball’ in reference to a goal against Stoke which was successfully claimed by Kane on appeal, having initially been credited to Spurs team-mate christian Eriksen.

it was light-hearted but was not well received at Spurs where they have been stunned by the public treatment meted out to English football’s golden boy, when so much rests on him at the World cup in russia. ‘it is important for English football to back the players,’ said Pochettino, who has also found himself defending Dele alli this season amid accusations of diving and criticism of poor form.

‘Show them a little bit more love because this type of situation, the one that happened after the game, does not help to create a good atmosphere.

‘ i am sure Harry is not happy and no one helped him to have an unbelievable World cup.

‘When we talk about passion and feeling proud to defend your country we need to be careful in the way we send messages or the way we write or give our opinion. it is fashion sometimes to boo or criticise like this. The important thing is to back them.

‘We need to protect our assets, our English players and the young players. We need to give them belief, we need to teach them, to educate and this type of situation has disappointed me a lot.’
