Drivers face £15 Heathrow fee
HOLIDAYMAKERS could soon be hit with a £15 charge for driving to Heathrow.
The UK’s busiest airport is considering imposing the fee in a bid to meet emissions targets by encouraging motorists to use public transport instead.
Levels of pollution on the M4 – the main route for drivers into Heathrow – is currently two-thirds above the legal limit. The charge zone would cover 82 miles of roads around the west London airport.
Poor air quality is one of the biggest obstacles to the proposed third runway at Heathrow being built. Environmental campaigners insist the extra pollution from traffic will make it impossible for Heathrow to hit emissions targets.
