West Brom make Allardyce move

- By MIKE KEEGAN

West Bromwich Albion are looking into the possibility of bringing sam Allardyce to the hawthorns.

the everton manager’s contract at Goodison Park, worth £6million a year, does not expire until 2019 but he is unpopular with sections of fans.

should he leave his post at the end of the season, West Brom are keen and have already made preliminary enquiries.

everton were 13th when Allardyce took over in november, five points above the relegation zone. Despite leading the club to eighth, picking up more points than any club outside the top five since his arrival on the way, fans are unhappy with Allardyce’s style of football.

supporters have called for his head, most recently during saturday’s 2-0 win at huddersfield. it is understood their feelings have been noted by everton officials. however, sections of the club’s top brass have been pleased with Allardyce’s impact and the idea of extending his contract by a year has been voiced.

the former england boss met Farhad moshiri last week but Allardyce refused to reveal whether everton’s major shareholder guaranteed his job for next season and said moshiri was not planning to publicly back him.

Allardyce did say, however, that plans for pre-season had been discussed, which provided ‘some clarity’. the situation is being monitored by West Brom’s chinese ownership. they look set for the drop and are without a permanent manager.

Allardyce, who hails from the Black country, has won promotion from the championship with Bolton and West ham. he held a player-coach role at West Brom under Brian talbot before launching his management career, although it remains to be seen whether he would be willing to drop a division.

should Allardyce be shown the door at everton, it could create a dilemma at West Brom. caretaker Darren moore is unbeaten in four matches and support is growing to give him the job, with veteran keeper Ben Foster leading the calls.

‘i would like him to get the job,’ he said. ‘he’s been top class and all the players would say exactly the same thing.’
