Turbine turmoil
JAMES DElInGPOlE’S article about wind turbines (Mail) raised important issues, but there is another aspect that should give cause for concern: the financial and environmental cost of building, transporting and erecting turbines.
A huge hole has to be dug for the foundations and often a road has to be built to do this. then the spoil has to be removed and the turbine transported and erected onsite, all using diesel-fuelled machinery.
I used to work for a company that made several million pounds a year repairing wind turbines that had caught fire, which happens a lot.
I wonder why the multi-national turbine company we dealt with would not let us use their name in our promotional literature.
