-

TODAY’s ODAY ’ s older generation turns out to be the wealthiest on record, with the majority of baby boomers now sitting on a potential £ 280,000- plus property nest egg, while enjoying a disposable income of more than £10,000 a year.

What’s more, the over-65s are also the happiest generation the country has ever seen, according to a new study, which reveals that they find their lives more worthwhile and satisfying than any other age group.

They are also the least anxious and less likely to suffer ff mental l illness, ill although they do worry about their health.

The happiest group is aged between 70 and 74 years old, says the report from the Office for National Statistics, charting the nation’s happiness.

Older people are more content with where they live — and those who work past the usual retirement age are happier in their jobs.

Among reasons for greater happiness, the report says, is that older people are more likely to have a husband or wife they can rely on.
