PLAYER RATINGS

- By DOMINIC KING AT THE STADIO OLIMPICO

ROMA (4-3-3) TEAM AVERAGE 5.3

ALISSON 6.5 Brazilian couldn’t be faulted for goals Roma conceded. Made one fine stop to deny Mane.

ALESSANDRO FLORENZI 6 Couldn’t handle pace that came flying down Liverpool’s left-hand side. Went close with one shot.

KOSTAS MANOLAS 5 Will be seeing Firmino in his nightmares for weeks. Could not contain the relentless Brazilian.

FEDERICO FAZIO 5 Did he learn nothing last week? Continually caught out and showed why he flopped at Spurs.

ALEKSANDAR KOLAROV 6

His deliveries were expected to be key but he never got in a position to cause havoc.

LORENZO PELLEGRINI 4 Played like someone who had won a raffle to be involved. Wild shots and poor control.

DANIELE DE ROSSI 6 Local hero carried responsibility of leading fightback but failed to master visitors’ midfield.

RADJA NAINGGOLAN 6.5 Error gifted Liverpool their first goal. Fine strike and penalty gave Roma win on the night.

PATRIK SCHICK 5 Made no discernible contribution to the attempted comeback. Some awful miscontrol.

EDIN DZEKO 7 By far Roma’s best player, a constant threat and deserved his goal. His team need more like him.

STEPHAN EL SHAARAWY 6 How he escaped a booking for a desperate dive was a mystery. That blotted a lively display.

SUBSTITUTES Under 6 (Pellegrini 53min), Gonalons 6 (De Rossi 69), Antonucci 5.5 (El Shaarawy 75).

Not used: Skorupski, Jesus, Peres, Gerson.

EUSEBIO DI FRANCESCO 5 Duty bound to go for goals but will look back on this tie and appreciate that conceding seven times over two legs was unforgivable.

LIVERPOOL (4-3-3) TEAM AVERAGE 6.8

LORIS KARIUS 6.5 Good command of area as he came for high balls. Could have been stronger for Roma’s second goal.

T ALEXANDER-ARNOLD 5 He will learn from this night. Committed himself too soon for Dzeko’s goal.

VIRGIL VAN DIJK 7 Pick of the defence, the only one who never seemed to be flustered. A few towering headers.

DEJAN LOVREN 6 Some shaky moments, such as kicking ball into Milner’s face for the own goal and a silly booking.

ANDY ROBERTSON 6.5 Best work was in final third and one dashing charge up field almost set up a goal for Mane.

GINI WIJNALDUM 7 Couldn’t have picked a better time to score his first away goal in three years. Neat and tidy.

JORDAN HENDERSON 8 Captain was discipline personified. Use of the ball was excellent and always in the right area.

JAMES MILNER 7.5 Knew nothing about the own goal. Blow to face didn’t stop him running another marathon.

MOHAMED SALAH 6.5 Quiet by his standards with no sightings of goal. Still made Roma jittery whenever he got the ball.

ROBERTO FIRMINO 7.5 Had Roma’s defenders tormented with constant pressing and harrying. Unlucky not to get a goal.

SADIO MANE 7 A different player from the one who struggled at the turn of the year. Opening goal settled nerves.

SUBSTITUTES Klavan (Mane 83min), Solanke (Firmino 87), Clyne (Alexander-Arnold 87).

Not used: Mignolet, Moreno, Ings, Woodburn.

JURGEN KLOPP 7 Not in his nature to shut up shop but game would have been too ragged at times for his liking. Fourth man to take Liverpool to a European Cup final.
