HSBC is ‘humbled’
THE new boss of HSBC said his bank was humbled by a scandal which saw it launder millions of pounds for Mexican drug lords.
Chief executive John Flint, who took over in February said the lender had a brilliant time during the financial crisis, but was then severely damaged by the Mexico debacle, which saw it fined £1.4bn for supporting organised crime.
Flint said: ‘We felt the trauma personally. I was taught that if we ever made a mess of things there was no one else to tidy up after us.’
