BELLEW AT FULL THROTTLE

- By JEFF POWELL

TONY BELLEW finally broke the truce by pushing David Haye and grabbing him by the throat in a face-to-face press conference (above) prior to their grudge rematch tomorrow night. Haye, having turned away from the ugly and foul-mouthed build-up to their first clash 14 months ago, kept his cool, but Bellew reverted to the four-letter unpleasantness. Earlier, Haye admitted his ring legacy was on the line at the O2. Haye, 37, said: ‘They say you’re only as good as your last fight. My last fight was an 11th-round stoppage at the hands of Tony Bellew. For me that would have been the worst finish to any career I could have had... it would have put a big smudge over my c.v. I would have been very, very disappointed. It would have undone all my great nights over the years. Everything is on the line — my reputation, my soul, and I will not allow Tony Bellew to get the win.’ Haye plans to test his opponent’s durability in the later rounds but Bellew, 35, insisted: ‘David has never shown that he is a 12-round fighter who gets stronger in his whole life. Boxing is a sport where fighters do not get better as they get older. It has never happened.’
