DRIVERS
are paying a fortune in fines because they assume parking restrictions have been lifted on bank holidays when they still apply.
Using Freedom of Information laws, the Daily Mail found that 25 councils made £1,004,336 last year – an average of £40,173.
Motoring groups accused town halls of acting like ‘highway bandits’ for not making bank holiday parking rules clear.
The Local Government Association, which represents more than 370 councils, said any surplus was spent on ‘essential transport projects’.
