Doha turns into night games because of fears over heat
THE World Athletics Championships in Doha in 2019 run the risk of poor crowds as numerous events will start after midnight to beat the heat. The capital of Qatar will stage the event from September 26 to October 6 next year despite fears over the climate. The IAAF have scrapped morning sessions, when temperatures are likely to reach 37oC. But a marquee event such as the women’s 100 metres final will start at 11.20pm (9.20pm UK time) and both marathons at midnight, when the streets will be deserted.
