SACKED HENRY HIT WITH FA CHARGE

- By MATT LAWTON

TONY HENRY, the former director of player recruitment at West Ham, has been charged with misconduct by the FA over comments he made about African players. In January Sportsmail revealed that Henry had sent an email to an agent telling him West Ham did not want to sign African players during that month’s transfer window. And when contacted by this newspaper and asked to explain the email, he tried to justify his stance by claiming that African players have a ‘bad attitude’ and ‘cause mayhem’ when they are not in the team. His comments sparked outrage and caused considerable embarrassment to West Ham, who moved quickly to condemn Henry’s comments as ‘unacceptable’ and sacked him. Sportsmail’s sensational exclusive in January Meanwhile, Hammers boss David Moyes has blasted the club’s self-destructive ‘culture of leaks’ after handing Andy Carroll a fine of two weeks’ wages for his disrespectful behaviour during the defeat by Manchester City. Moyes felt the information was leaked, and said: ‘It makes it very difficult. I’ve had to come to terms with the culture of West Ham and the culture seems that leaks, stories, are part of it. Can I change it? I’m sure every manager has tried. I’ve tried not to get too wound up by it because I think it is the culture of West Ham.’
